The stars spoke once to man,
It is world destiny that they are silent now.
To be aware of this silence
Can be painful for earthly humanity.
But in the deepening silence,
There grows and ripens
What human beings speak to the stars.
To be aware of this speaking
Can become strength for Spirit Man.
~ Rudolf Steiner, December, 1922
Event Details:
Arrival: Children to be in their classrooms at 6:30pm for a 6:45pm start.
Parent Seating: Parents may take their seats in the Big Hall by 6:40pm.
Dress Code: White top and dark pants for all children.
Who: This gathering is for our Primary School children. Our younger ones will have their own special moment in time.
The Class 3 Market Day will no longer be part of the Friday Market. Instead, it will take place on Monday during first break and after school. Our Class 3 children will still be stepping into the role of budding entrepreneurs, running their carefully made stalls, practising money skills, and sharing the joy of giving back, with all proceeds going to charity.
As the year gently draws to a close, we warmly invite our high school families to a festive soiree filled with entertainment, laughter, and a bring-and-share feast.
The Class 11 students presented a moving Eurythmy performance after months of dedicated practice. Their pieces explored the tension between chaos and order, showing how these two forces meet and shape one another through movement. It was a thoughtful and beautifully executed contribution from the class.
To jump to individual performances, timestamps are included in the description.
The Class 10 and Class 1 students met on the oval this week for a buddies picnic to celebrate the nearing end of term. They shared snacks, enjoyed the fresh air, and spent time playing together. It was a relaxed gathering that gave the younger children a chance to connect with their older buddies and brought a warm close to the term for both classes.
This week’s artwork showcases a variety of projects, including Class 8’s ‘Merging of Time’ and ‘Secret Garden,’ lino prints from Class 9, and a featured piece by Amarah Edwards, ‘Disconnected,’ along with her matric portfolio.
Merging of Time – Students staged a photo of themselves recreating an artwork of their choice. They then used the photo as a reference to create a painting in the style of the original artwork. (you can click between the final and reference photos below)
Secret Garden – Students focused on the elements of art and the principles of design as they recreated a magical garden using a variety of mediums and techniques.
Lino Print – printmaking technique where an image is carved into linoleum, inked, and then pressed onto paper to create a bold, textured artwork.

Amarah Edwards – Matric
This artwork by Amarah Edwards has been selected for exhibition at the Western Cape Premier’s NSC Awards 2025/2026 in recognition of its quality, the dedication of the Visual Arts teacher, and the creativity of our learners. It will be showcased at the awards ceremony on Thursday, 29 January 2026, alongside works from top Visual Arts students across the province.
Amarah has done a phenomenal job with her art this year and we are incredibly proud. You can download her full portfolio below.
The school community gathered last week for the Annual General Meeting, beginning the evening in our lovely Waldorf way with shared singing that gently brought presence and togetherness into the space. Alison Tobler then offered a thoughtful contribution on behalf of the College of Teachers, sharing a story about adaptation and its significance in the life of our school.
The meeting moved through its formal business, including the approval of the previous year’s minutes, the adoption of the Annual Financial Statements, and the confirmation of auditors for the upcoming financial year.
The proposed slate of Trustees was presented and approved, marking the beginning of a new governance cycle for the year ahead. Attendees were also able to engage in a short question-and-answer session, creating space for clarification and dialogue.
The school extends its appreciation to all who attended and participated, helping to hold the continued growth and stewardship of the community.
The High School is looking for brass candle stick holders to be used at our High School Soiree next week on the 10th of December.
Donations will lovingly be kept as part of the school decor and set design.
If you are able to lend and not donate your candle stick, we will make sure to return it before school closes. Please make sure to mark them with your name & cell number.
Drop off at reception no later then Wednesday morning please.
A heartfelt thank you to the Matric Parents of 2025 for gifting our high school teachers a wonderful afternoon of bowling at the Constantia Bowls Club. It was an incredible team-building experience, and many laughs were had by all.
The opportunity to relax, connect, and share in this experience with colleagues was truly refreshing and very much needed. We are grateful for the time together as a high school faculty.
Does anyone perhaps own a dumpy level that they could lend the school for 1 day next week? If yes, please contact Wilfried – 078 006 4765
Extramural art classes continue at Michael Oak this term, offering a space for children to explore a wide range of creative projects, from drawing and painting to clay and mixed media. Classes take place on Friday afternoons at the school, with additional sessions available in Constantia. Open to various age groups, the programme encourages creativity, confidence and enjoyment of art. Contact Sue for more information or to enrol.
A series of Eurythmy classes exploring the timeless emotional themes found in Shakespeare’s works, including sorrow, grief, loss, and friendship. Through movement and expression, participants will engage with Shakespeare’s poetry in a reflective and artistic way while developing greater awareness, connection, and creativity in a supportive group setting.
Our trusted household helper has been part of our family for over 20 years and helped raise my two daughters, both of whom attended Michael Oak. She is a wonderful childminder, familiar with the Waldorf ethos, and prepares delicious meals, including vegetarian options.
With the children now grown, she is looking for one additional day of work. As we have lived across the road from the school for many years, she is well known within the community.
For more information, please contact Dudu – 083 595 3242, or Catherine – 076 932 9957 for a reference.

Parenting in the Digital Age
The DSK looks forward to hosting another public talk with The Digital Law Company and Emma Sadleir on 21 April 2026 at 18h00:
Parenting in the Digital Age – advice, guidance and education in all aspects of social media and the law.
Everything you need to know to survive about raising children in an online world – the laws, the apps, the issues.
For more than 20 years the Young Men & Women in Michael Oak’s Class 10 have stepped out of their usual world and into a week of adventure. A time where they can look back to see where they’ve come from (roots), inside to see who they are (heart) and ahead to imagine possibilities (wings).
This experience comes at a point in the curriculum where they have already started looking for answers which many of us are still searching for. The Roots, Hearts & Wings Adventure (RHWA) is an opportunity to take a courageous step into an understanding of ourselves and those around us.
Through all these years a constantly refreshed and trained team of volunteers from the school community (parents, teachers and alumni) has welcomed them into this safe space for growth and friendship. The magic lies in that the answers do not sit in any one of us, rather they are assembled out of all of our stories.
If you are interested in contributing to or being part of the RHWA team, then please contact the Class 10 Guardians (Caleb Gallant & Victoria Sigalas), or Roy Davids, to find out more and put yourself forward.
